Rally crowd hears challenge to HIV theory

ACT UP Cleveland's Memorial March and Rally is history for World AIDS Day '94. It was "The Day The Truth Was Told In Cleveland," as Dr. Robert Willner and ACT UP members put it. The weather was cold but the crowd was warm and receptive to Dr. Willner's presentation on HIV and AIDS.

is now to ask the questions that will determine whether (A), AIDS will continue to ravage all our communities with the abandon and confusion caused by today's blind acceptance of unproven hypothesis directed by greed and power grabbing, or (B), open, honest, uninhibited research is allowed to take place; exploring all theories about the

ACT UP

The number of people marching from the Federal Building to Public Square was estimated at 30 to 40, while the noontime crowd at the northwest quadrant at Public Square grew to 147 enraptured listeners. Dr. Willner conveyed his points very clearly and answered questions from the

group, who stayed long after the speech ended to talk with him.

As expected, Dr. Willner challenged local AIDS doctors from the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit at University Hospitals to debate his theories and prove their assertion that HIV is 100 percent responsible for AIDS. Surprise, not one doctor in the Cleveland AIDS research community would come forward. Why? They know they cannot 100 percent prove their hypothesis. Ask them, they will falter.

The event was considered successful in increasing awareness of the many divergent areas of HIV research that are being studied by renowned virologists, doctors and scientists the world over; contrary to what Drs. Lederman, Carey and Cargill from University Hospitals will admit.

After 13 years of failed research, the time

without undue influence from those whose sole motivation is their National Institutes for Health paycheck and their arrogant pursuit of their own agendas. In light of the work of Dr. Robert Willner and Dr. Peter Dues-

berg, which presents enough doubt about the HIV-AIDS theory, the Cleveland chapter of ACT UP believes that further investigation is warranted and will spend considerable time looking into these theories.

ACT UP does recommend that people continue practicing safe sex. Too much is yet unknown about AIDS to even consider taking part in any type of high-risk behavior; not forgetting the wealth of other sexually transmitted diseases that by themselves can contribute to immune suppression and poor health.

For those who have died, for those who are still alive, we cannot and will not allow the question to be ignored or pushed aside. The evidence is mounting, a small consensus is forming and questions are being asked. Will anyone find an answer soon? We will not know unless we ask the questions.
